Ramchandra Hassamal Shamdasani came to Hong Kong in 1950. He established the Eastern Express Co., Ltd. gaining a foothold in the textile business. A successful businessman with a keen interest in charitable work, he soon turned his attention to matters close to his heart and, in 1968 in Hong Kong, established the Shamdasani Foundation, to conduct charity in the name of Sai Baba of Shirdi. In 1980, Mr.Shamdasani returned to Bombay and started the Indian Division. The funds raised by the Foundation, are used to build hospitals, health centres, schools, and homes for the aged, disabled, blind and underprivileged in India. Alleviating poverty and helping those in need were causes always uppermost in Mr. Shamdasani's mind. If charity is love, then Ramchandra Hassamal stands tall as a lover of underprivileged humanity. Ramchandra Hassamal Shamdasani and his loving wife Devi, are survived by their sons Chandru, Ramesh (passed away 22nd November 2018) and Haresh; grandchildren, Krishen, Anil and Sonia; Daughters-in-law, Monica and Erika. His family will continue the great
work that he started: to help those who cannot help themselves. |
